Dyson's new CameraJet has a camera in it, and a camera needs a clear view. That is why Dyson engineered its own toothpaste to be non-foaming and SLS-free, and why its product FAQ recommends the same for anything else you use with the brush. ENML toothpaste tablets have been SLS-free and low-foam since our first batch. This is a short, honest guide to using them together.

Why foam matters to this toothbrush
The CameraJet uses a 100,000-pixel macro lens that scans 28 images a second to find the gaps between your teeth and fire a jet of mouthrinse into them while you brush. Foam sits between the lens and your teeth. In Dyson's own words, its toothpaste is “formulated without SLS (a common foaming agent) to help keep foam out of the way so the camera can see clearly.”
SLS, sodium lauryl sulfate, is the ingredient whose only job in conventional toothpaste is to make lather. Remove it and a toothpaste cleans the same way and foams far less. ENML tablets have never contained it.
What ENML tablets are, and are not
- SLS-free. Our full ingredient list is on every product page; there is no sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate in it.
- Low-foam, not non-foaming. The formula uses sodium cocoyl glycinate, a mild amino-acid cleanser, which makes a light foam rather than a thick lather. Dyson's paste is the one engineered to be genuinely non-foaming.
- Fluoride-free. Our formula is built around micro-hydroxyapatite, the calcium mineral that makes up most of tooth enamel. Dyson's toothpaste contains sodium fluoride. If you want fluoride, use Dyson's.
- Pre-measured. One tablet is one brush. Foam scales with how much paste is in your mouth, and a tablet cannot be over-squeezed.
- Plastic-free. Tin and refill pouches, no tube.
How to use a tablet with the CameraJet
- Wet the brush head. Tablets need a little water to break down; a dry brush is the usual reason first-timers find them chalky.
- Chew one tablet until it turns into a paste, a few seconds.
- Brush for two minutes as normal. In auto-jet mode the brush will fire mouthrinse into the gaps as the camera finds them.
- Rinse and refill the tank from the dock as usual.
Where Dyson's own toothpaste is the better choice
Dyson's paste is the only formula that was tested with the jet, its clinical claims were run with Dyson's own formulations, and it is genuinely non-foaming. If you want fluoride, or the lowest possible foam above everything else, use it. Our case is for people who have already decided to go fluoride-free and want the tube off the counter.
What we have not tested yet
Two things, and we would rather say so than guess: how our light foam looks on the CameraJet's live camera view, and whether a dissolved ENML mouthwash tablet is clear and low-foaming enough for the 12.5 ml mouthrinse tank. Units ship 8 September. We will update this article with both results, including if the answer is “use Dyson's.”
